Nyko Movie Player for iPod Previewed

iPodlounge has an extended preview of the Nyko Movie Player for iPod, which uses Apple’s hard disk-based players as dumb storage from which to play back video on its LCD screen. The idea is neat enough, but there is an implication that the Movie Player will only support ASF format videos, which is far from optimal. There’s also a bizarre mention of ‘anti-piracy’ and ‘DRM’ features—humorous primarily because the DMCA makes converting DVDs to another format illegal in the first place. So Nyko will sell you a device to watch your ‘pirated’ DVD transfers, but they won’t let you copy the files from one Movie Player to another. Hokey.

Nyko is aiming for a November release for around $200-$250, with no Mac support planned until next year.
