Antarctica looks so incredibly huge from space

Oh wow. This incredible view of Antarctica shows it with its sea ice at its maximum, in the month of September. I never imagined it would look so goddamn huge.

This image shows a view of Earth on September 21, 2005, made from the data taken by the AMSR-E instrument, a device designed to capture temperatures and sea ice concentration onboard NASA’s Aqua satellite (right now, AMSR-E is offline because of a malfunction due to aging of the lubricant that allowed its mechanism to spin, according to NASA.)

The picture has amazing detail when you zoom it.

You can download the original 8,000 x 8,000 resolution right and explore it here.
