Olympus has just announced a new SLR for under $1000. The EVOLT E-500 has a 2.5-in LCD and is compatible with other Olympus Zuiko Digital Specific Lenses. A successor to the EVOLT E-300, it’s also got 8.1 megapixels but with a much smaller and more durable body (15.3 ounces). Comes with rechargeable Li-ion battery, dual card slots (for CompactFlash, Microdrive and xD picture cards), Olympus Master Software CD-ROM and a Zuiko 14-45mm f3.5-f5.6 Digital Zoom Lens. $799.99 for camera with one lens and $899.99 for two.
