One Of The Best “Pulling The Rug Out From Under” Scenes In Film History

The movie The Forgotten, starring Julianne Moore, feels like your standard-issue “everything is messed up and nothing is real, and everyone thinks I’m crazy because I’m the only one who can see it” thriller — until this moment. Warning: Mega-spoilers!

In The Forgotten, it’s been a while since Moore’s son died in a not-at-all suspicious plane crash. And now, suddenly, everybody including her husband is insisting that she never had a son in the first place. Not only that, but the hunky guy who lives nearby is also the only one who can remember his lost daughter — and when you peel back the nice wallpaper in the daughter’s old bedroom, there’s suddenly a kid’s mural. Dum dum dumm….

Cue lots of peeling back layers of the onion and conspiracy-wrangling and being chased and so on. Until the scene above, when Moore finally finds a trustworthy, smart police officer (Alfre Woodard) who believes her and promises to get some answers…. before being sucked up into the sky like a tapioca ball thru an extra-wide straw. Sluuuurrp!

Below is the movie’s other great scene, at the very end — in which the aliens (they’re aliens, FYI) show up and try to make Julianne Moore forget her son using their mind-control powers at close range. It doesn’t work, and Julianne Moore proves why you don’t ever, ever, fuck with Julianne Moore.

I fear for the safety of Katniss Everdeen, and whatever Jeff Bridges’ witch hunter in Seventh Son is named.
