It’s probably not news to those of you knee-deep in portable music players, but ExtremeTech has a nice round-up of the current crop of music download services, from iTunes to Napster to AllOfMP3. You know my take on all this (favorite player: iTunes; favorite service: AllOfMP3), but I have to agree with Dave Salvator when he says that Napster To Go is probably the most compelling service out there right now. It’s legal, according to the RIAA and copyright structure, and lets you fill up compatible portable players for not a lot of money. I’ll only choke down DRM if I have to, though, so it’s still quasi-legal Russian AACs for me.
Anyway, if you don’t really know what’s up with above-the-board music downloading services, this is a good place to start.
