Godzilla Minus Zero, the sequel to 2023’s Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One, is just a few short months away, and we know basically nothing about it. There have been a few brief teases, but for a movie coming out in November, normally there would be much, much more out there.
Well, maybe that’s about to change. This week, Toho released a brand-new behind-the-scenes video from the set of Godzilla Minus Zero, and it shows director Takashi Yamazaki creating what will be the first Japanese feature ever filmed in IMAX. Check out the clip here.
“War reduced Japan to zero, and Godzilla plunged it into minus,” the film’s official description reads. “Two years have passed since then, and the country has faced agonizing struggles to achieve recovery and finally reclaim its daily life. Just as humanity managed to cling to a hard-won peace, a new threat strikes, crushing hope in an instant. There is no third time. Everything ends here.” So basically we’ve got a film set in 1949, once again following the Shikishima family as everyone’s favorite kaiju returns. Hopefully we see more from the film soon.
The world premiere of Godzilla Minus Zero takes place on September 26 at the New York Film Festival, so we’ll at least get some buzz in the coming weeks. That’s followed by a November 3 opening in Japan and a North American opening on November 6. And, yes, it will be in IMAX. Are you as excited as we are?
