PalmOne Buys Palm Name from PalmSource

Okay, so Daddy is confused. If I’m reading all this correctly, PalmOne just bought the name ‘Palm’ from PalmSource, which means they’ll be known as ‘Palm’ and PalmSource will be taking on a new name. It cost PalmOne something like $30 million to secure the name, so I guess they think that’s an important part of their strategy, even though PalmOne doesn’t make the Palm OS. If nothing else, this ensures the possibility that we might be using Windows Mobile-powered ‘Palm’ devices in the relatively near future (if rumors hold water).

But still, this is going to be so confusing, and I hold both companies in more contempt than usual for making me use my brain even a little. Is this another step in the dismantling of PalmSource (like when David Nagel jumped ship)?
