This is definitely aimed at the broadcasting industry and not the home market, but Panasonic’s new solid state memory camcorder eschews videotape entirely and instead records to 4GB PCMCIA cards. There might are only be a handful of other videotapeless camcorders (recording either to SD memory cards or rewriteable mini-DVDs) available right now, but videotape is most definitely on its way out.
