Filed back in May but just made public, the patent describes "operating functions of a portable terminal having a bended display." Essentially, it runs through a series of software applications which could make use of a screen which droops over the edges of your phone. So, let's take a look at what Samsung might just have up its sleeve.

Of course, how useful any of this would be would depend on both how well it works and how you use your phone. But we'll have to wait and see if the screen ever sees the light of day before passing judgement on that. [USPTO via Verge]

All these are really just using the side as extra display space, without any advantage over a regular flat screen. Pretty much typical for Samsung - "we have the tech without any clue what to do with it, so we just pile it onto the phone as gimmics"
