One of the most beloved actors of several generations, Patrick Stewart, died this week at the age of 86. Best known for his work as Captain Jean-Luc Picard on various iterations of Star Trek, Stewart was as versatile and talented as actors come.
And so, when a person like that is lost, the world grieves. Fans, colleagues, filmmakers, and more took to social media to express their love and adoration for Stewart, and here are just a few.
We lost one of the greats of stage and screen today. And, in my book, a tremendous friend and man. I learned so much from him. I will miss you, Patrick Stewart, all of my days.
What a heartbreaking week it has been. Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did. Captain Picard stood for the best of…

Like so many kids my age, I first encountered the brilliant Sir Patrick in Boorman’s Excalibur. His Picard riveted me and he was the perfect Charles Xavier. R.I.P. pic.twitter.com/FDTvgAZ8j5

In a week where the Star Trek community has already lost one icon, we now lose one of the greatest stars to not only grace an Enterprise, but also the stage and screen. I grew up as a fan, and was later gifted the privilege of becoming a colleague and friend, working with him for many years on “American Dad!”, “Family Guy”, and “Ted”. He was that rare… pic.twitter.com/aqHCHjKNrL— Seth MacFarlane (@SethMacFarlane) October 29, 2026
RIP Patrick Stewart. What an actor. I still can’t believe he agreed to do this scene. And he didn’t even mind when I ruined every take. Legend. pic.twitter.com/QazyDScCOU
