Here’s a characteristic for a cellphone other then just loading on more and more features: these suckers have extremely long battery life. The Philips Xenium 9@9a (pictured at left) is bereft of any extra bells and whistles but can hang on in standby for 40 days and 40 nights on a single charge, and even the most talkative jabberjaws in the world can go on gabbing all day, 10 hours without having to recharge the thing.

Other than that advanced energy efficiency, the line of 9@9 phones are fairly ordinary. The Xenium 9@9d (pictured in the middle) adds a 1.3-megapixel camera to the mix, while the 9@9t is a smartphone with handwriting recognition, an MP3 player and a miniSD memory expansion slot. You gotta love that long, long battery life. Welcome back to cellphoneage, Philips!
