When I think of fondue, I think of a lot of things. Swiss warriors raging across the field of battle, then making up long enough to melt some cheese together, dip some bread in it, and get tanked before going back to bludgeoning one another; Iliad Song XI; the French with their Bourguignonne, a mouthful of meat in both the literal and, “I can’t pronounce it,” senses; and of course, the 1970s American craze we all know and love (or hate). It is said that the average newlywed couple in that era could expect no less than three fondue pots as wedding gifts, and yet despite this proliferation of pots there has not until now been one so, well, pink. Chocolate is what this feminine fondue factory is all about, but I don’t see any reason you couldn’t whip up a fontina-fueled fantasy, or a pot of gruyere gruel, or even the cheeseless Chinese-inspired, French-named court bouillon if you wanted. But you’ll sure look girly doing it.
