Planting Child Porn on Your Boss's PC Will Make Him Totally Regret Being a Huge Jerkface

Neil Weiner did not like his boss, Eddie Thompson. He also wanted Eddie's job. So he allegedly sent London police a CD filled with 177 pictures of child pornography, claiming they came from Thompson's computer.

Investigating, police found 235 more images depicting child pornography on Thompson's computer, and he was arrested in 2006. His life was ruined. He claimed that the images must've been planted by a colleague, because he's "grumpy, bad tempered and irascible."

A month before the child porn CD was mailed to police, Weiner apparently told people at a barbecue that the way he'd get his Thompson fired would be by planting child porn on his computer. Nearly a year after Thompson was first arrested, police traced the anonymous call that led them to the porn stash on his computer back to Weiner, and arrested him. And now he's been convicted of perverting the course of justice and two counts of possessing indecent images of children.

What I find most interesting about this is that whilst neither of them are paedophiles (in so far as we are aware), both have, at some point during this event been charged with 'possessing indecent images of children'.

I'm not sure what to make of that as it seems contrary to the purposes of that law.

Not that I am saying I condone having said images, or what they were used for. It was a horrendous thing to do and Weiner certainly deserves punishment, but (potentially) life on a sex offenders registry for an ill-conceived and poorly executed attempt at getting your boss fired?

Seems. I dunno. I'm honestly at a loss here.
