This might come as a surprise, but TiVo isn’t the number one digital video recorder. Despite getting a ringing endorsement from FCC chairman Michael Powell (he called it “God’s machine”), successfully insinuating itself as a generic term (like Kleenex), and even getting turned into a verb (like Xerox), the digital video recorder in the greatest number of homes is by Echostar, not TiVo. Who knew?
