Possible Leaked Nexus 10 Renders Make It Look Like an Enormous Nexus 7

So the Nexus 10 is a pretty good tablet, especially for its price. But the 10-inch Nexus tabs just never caught on the way the 7-incher did. Now, a leaked press render from Phone Arena is showing off a (possible) new style: giant Nexus 7.

Funny this should pop up now, since Apple basically just did the same thing, redesigning its tried-and-true iPad into the iPad mini-esque iPad Air. Google’s Nexus tablets have a bit of a different history, though. Google started with a gangbusters 7-inch before expanding into the 10-inch zone with less success.

And didn’t help that, as good as the Nexus 10 is, it is also weird looking and shaped like nothing else, so a change would be nice. Plus, there are also whispers that Nexus 7-makers ASUS will be putting out the Nexus 10 this time around, instead of Samsung like last time. So a form-factor shift towards Nexus 7 style only makes sense.

Of course these renders might be totally fake. The notification bar is blue, not white, and the navbar isn’t clear, as it is in numerous Kit Kat 4.4 and Nexus 5 leaks. But who knows what that really means. You can expect to hear more about it at the not-at-all-a-secret Kit Kit/Nexus 5 announcement that’s almost certainly coming later this month. Update: Eagle-eyed commenters have pointed out the background for this sucker is also a BIG OLD FIVE, which makes it a lot less likely this is real. Still, a switch to this sort of design makes sense and hopefully it’s true even if this particular render is bogus.
