Matthias Bruggmann, the best Switzerland-based photojournalist I know, just got an official heads-up from Canon about the EOS 1 DS Mark II, and seeing how he’s a pro and all, I thought you guys might like to hear what he had to say, too.

Update: My lord, look at the sample images on Canon’s product page. 16.7 is a lot of megapixels.

Canon pro switzerland has just sent me a copy of the official stats for the 1 DS Mark II…
They’re consistent with what you posted from the japanese flyer a few days ago, but here goes, with a quick and dirty translation from French… in short, it rocks. and, as usual, the spin really doesn’t do justice to the incredible work the canon engineers have been doing. can’t wait to get my claws on the beast, and i’ll bet i’m not the only to be ready to pounce on it…
MSRP is 11250 swiss francs, just south of 10k US over here, don’t know if it’s a pro pricing (we, thankfully, get rebates…) so you guys *should* be getting it a bit cheaper on the street, i’d guess around 8….
a quick read leads me to believe there will be a few problems, though.
Wether the interface, which is IMHO an infamy on the pro canon bodies has been updated, and especially the new joystick system, as seen on the D20, has been implemented is unknown, and when they’re finally going to get rid of the damn NIMH (nope, no lithium on 8k worth of kit !!!) is unknown. I’d also like a lighter body without the autonomy and less gizmos (i’d rather carry a couple of spare batteries in my pocket than two day’s worth of shooting, reviewing, editing, photoshopping, and cofeemaking in my hand) but they’re not going to be paying for the RSI bills from holding the damn things all day long.
