And while we’re on the subject of next generation console hardware, Gameindustry.biz has also revealed (albeit not officially) Sony’s private plans for utilizing 802.11b WiFi wireless networking in the Playstation 3 and PSP, and it’s more ambitious than you might have imagined. While it has been common knowledge that the PSP would have WiFi, now the possibility arises that the Playstation 3 will have built-in WiFi, as well, acting as a household wireless hub for streaming content to local PSPs. Not only that, but Sony has plans to create a cross-provider plan that would allow subscribers access to various WiFi hot spots, even if they are operated by different companies. For now this “PSP Wireless Service” is rumored only for Japan, but Sony’s American and European arms are probably cooking up something similar.

Add into this stew the information about Sony’s upcoming Sony Connect music download service, and a picture (of stew) begins to emerge; one where Sony’s PSP is used to wirelessly download or stream Sony music or movies from a Sony-licensed hot spot.
