Inspired by the recent NASA Mars missions, Marcos Weskamp decided to build a remote control rover for everyone—at least everyone who can get to his website for one hour each week. The Remote Driver 2 is built on an old RC car chassis, using a tablet PC and webcam for its brain and eyes. Weskamp’s custom software allows anyone with a flash client and a goodly amount of bandwidth to control the Remote Driver 2 from anywhere in the world. Thanks to Weskamp’s ingenuity, we will finally be able to answer that age-old question: was there once life in Japan?
