Like all Rick and Morty promos, the trailer for the Adult Swim series’ ninth season reveals little to nothing about what to expect in the episodes ahead. It does, however, promise a very energetic array of adventures, with the Smith-Sanchez house becoming sentient and ferocious (“The floor is lava!”); Morty maybe being drafted into yet another rebellion; the return of Space Beth; Rick getting into some kind of kung fu showdown; and more—all set to the fist-pumping sounds of prime 1980s Billy Idol.
After the triumphant eighth season—building on season seven, which saw the introduction of new talent behind the voices of Rick and Morty—we’re pumped to see what’s next. We’ve been promised 100 years, after all!
Created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, Rick and Morty debuted back in 2013. Since season five, it’s been showrun by Scott Marder. The current cast includes Ian Cardoni as Rick, Harry Belden as Morty, Sarah Chalke as Beth, Chris Parnell as Jerry, and Spencer Grammer as Summer.
Season nine of Rick and Morty premieres on Adult Swim May 24, with the show currently renewed through season 12.
So far there’s no word yet on when the show’s first spin-off, which was revealed at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, will arrive. Called President Curtis, it puts the spotlight on the recurring Rick and Morty character (and frequent Rick foe) voiced by the legendary Keith David.
