For all of the benefit there is in building desktop PCs from scratch, the machines built tend to be noisy wrecks compared to quieter prebuilt units like those from Dell or Apple. And while for some the whirring and shrieking of a homemade box is a symbol of pride, like the blapping and buzzing of an overtuned engine, for many of us it’s just an unwelcome side effect of getting the most bang for our buck.
