First there was that Bane imbroglio, and now this — radio host Rush Limbaugh is certainly intersecting with geek touchstones in downright baffling ways. On the cover of his most recent newsletter, artist Christopher Hiers is credited with the left illustration, which — Rush’s severed head and hypno-Obama eyes notwithstanding — looks exactly like artist Wayne Reynolds’ drawing of the “Nightmare Beast” from the 2002 Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition Monster Manual II.

Upon being notified of this ersatz Nightmare Beast on the prowl, Reynolds said “That’s a bad copy of an illustration I was never happy with in the first place. [Dungeons & Dragons publisher Wizards of the Coast’s] legal team might be interested in this one though!”

Of course, this now brings up the pressing issue of Limbaugh’s character class. Shadow elf milliner? Hobgoblin grain speculator? Merman old-timey megaphone screamer? Hat tip to eagle-eyed Paul.
