Elevating slot car racing far past ‘toy’ status, the Scalextric Sportworld system is an incredibly full-featured software suite that integrates with special race track pieces to provide virtual track modeling, post-race telemetry, and even over-the-internet competitive racing. The Sportworld system provides a sandbox-like environment for construction of 3D tracks, including accurately modeled track flex information (important for building those high-bank curves.) It also allows you to simulate races on your computer or play back races that you had on your real-life track.
It won’t be out until Christmas at least, and there’s no word on price, but Slotforum.com has a nice write up about a system that looks to be a major step forward for a hobby I had until recently forgotten existed. [Thanks, Doug!]
