With no technical training (indeed, not much education at all), no external financial support, and no fancy computer-aided design, Wu Yulu manufactures his robots out of scrap metal, spare batteries, and duct tape on the outskirts of Beijing. His completed projects include everything from a small hopping frog to a human-esque robot which performs a variety of tasks, including changing light bulbs and lighting cigarettes. His next project, a human simulacrum with functioning arms and legs, is currently underway. After that, I’m thinking Mr. Yulu should build a bloodthirsty robot army and order them to ravage the Chinese countryside unless someone coughs up the dough to send him to a respectable engineering school.
