Sharp’s going to have a new network media player on their home turf early next year, the CE-MR01. Supporting both wired (10 and 100mbps, no gigabit) and wireless networks of the a, b, and g varieties, the unit is capable of playing back MPEG-1 and 2, MP3, WAV, and WMA, as well as displaying various image formats. Doesn’t look like it has any storage built in—seems more like a bridge between Windows XP and your TV or stereo than an actual standalone player—but details are still somewhat sketchy unless you happen to read Japanese. Price is expected to be under $400, or around 40,000 Yen.
