Sharp IT-23M1U 23″ LCD Available

I figure nineteen inches is enough for any man, but I guess Sharp disagrees, as evidenced by their new 23-inch LCD HDTV monitor. For some reason they’re calling it an “IT-TV,” but I can’t quite figure out what that’s supposed to mean. Spec-wise it’s not bad, hitting two of the important elements: it’s bright with good contrast. It doesn’t offer very high resolution for a 23″ workstation monitor, though, maxing out at 1366 by 768. This kind of negates Sharp’s marketing material, which claims in essence that the 23M1U is a great workstation monitor and a great LCD TV all in one. OK for watching DVDs, sure, but if I’m dropping $1500 on a 23″ workstation monitor, it better do 1600 by 1200.

It does have built-in 10-watt speakers, though, so they’re serious about the whole TV thing, at least.
