Every week, you diligently jump through Shooting Challenge hoops, strengthening your creative muscles in isolation. This week, it pays off. Use your skills to photograph anything you’d like any way you’d like.

The Challenge

I couldn’t make the challenge more open—I simply ask that you bring your best of whatever you choose to do. Use a technique we’ve covered in the past, or don’t. Hopefully, participating in Shooting Challenges is helping you grow as a photographer. This is the sort of week you get to showcase such growth.

The Method

No method required beyond removing the lens cap, but just so you know, next week will be business as usual in terms of highly specific challenges. So get your jollies out and get ready to return to work soon. (I anticipate we’ll start doing free-for-alls a few times a year.)

The Rules

1. Submissions need to be your own.

2. Photos need to be taken the week of the contest. (No portfolio linking or it spoils the “challenge” part.)

3. Explain, briefly, the equipment, settings and technique used to snag the shot.

4. Email submissions to [email protected].

5. Include 800px wide image (200KB or less) AND a 2560×1600 sized in email. (The 800px image is the one judged, so feel free to crop/alter the larger image for wallpaper-sized dimensions.)

Send your best entries by Sunday, May 16th at 11PM Eastern to [email protected] with “Free For All” in the subject line. Save your files as JPGs, and use a FirstnameLastnameFREE.jpg (800px) and FirstnameLastnameFREEWALLPAPER.jpg (2560px) naming conventions. Include your shooting summary (camera, lens, ISO, etc) in the body of the email along with a story of the shot in a few sentences.
