Skype wants to raise $100 million in an IPO. That's all well and good, but the fun part is what Skype had to reveal about itself in order to ask for all that money. Fun Skype facts ahoy!
So, what have we learned from the filing? Well, Skype's 560 million registered users have spent 95 billion minutes video and voice chatting. And of that 560 million, less than a quarter are active, and only 8.1 million are actual paying users, each of whom spends an average of $96 per year.
Still, that's enough to be profitable to the tune of $115.8 million—not bad for a service only 6% of users pay for. [SEC via All Things D]
DISCUSSION
I plan on being one of those paying users as soon as my kid's bluetooth headset arrives, he's getting a skype number for his iPod touch.
If they ever offer cheap wifi only phones that have a keypad for under 100 bucks I think they would do quite well.
