Now every man and his donkey has a Snapdragon chip in their smartphones, it's time for Qualcomm to look past the 1.2GHz speeds and bring us a 1.5GHz dual-core. It's on its way, from late this year/early next year.

The dual-core QSD8672 chip was outed by Qualcomm's VP of product management, Mark Frankel, and is said to support 1080p playback, along with DDR2, DDR3 and HDMI components. While it's not expected until early 2011, there's apparently a good chance it could pop up in a few products before Christmas. [ComputerWorld via MobileBurn via Engadget]

i don't see why a phone needs to be this fast. i've never felt like a phone i had was slow, even a smart phone.
