It seems like only yesterday Snapchat was putting out a blackface Bob Marley filter. Now, it appears the company has moved on to yellowface.
As various people have pointed out on Twitter, Snapchat’s new filter—which has since been taken down—turned users into, uh, this:
.@Snapchat wanna tell me why u thought this yellowface was ok?? pic.twitter.com/sgpW4AFPsE

The company tells the Guardian that the filter was “anime-inspired,” and that it “won’t be put back into circulation.” It also added, “Lenses are meant to be playful and never to offend.” Okay then!
In April, the company came under fire for its offensive Bob Marley-inspired filter. Unfortunately, it appears the same thing has happened here, which begs the question: How the fuck does this shit keep happening?
We’ve reached out to Snapchat for comment, and we’ll update if we hear back.
