Solar-powered Webcam Connects to Net Via EDGE

There are plenty of webcams out there, but Digital Xtractions’ SCIRC t1 is the only one that can connect to the Internet sans a PC. It has a built-in high-speed cellular modem and uses Cingular’s EDGE network to connect to and transmit video to the Web. As if that weren’t impressive enough, the SCIRC t1 is solar powered making it a handy gadget for outdoor types. It’s costly though. The camera alone goes for $450 while its solar panel will set you back an addition $150 to $250 (depending on which size panel you get). And don’t forget the $60/year data subscription. Yeah, I think I’ll stick with my desktop webcam for now.
