As the resolution of digital camers soars ever upwards, it’s important to remember that picture quality isn’t all about the number of pixels. Over at Photo.net, Bob Atkins writes that it’s also the size digital cameras – Minolta’s Dimage Xi (pictured at right), Nikon’s Coolpix 995, and Canon’s D30 – which all have resolutions of three megapixels, but have sensors of wildly varying sizes (all have sensors that are considerably smaller than that of a standard 35mm frame, for that matter). And as you’d expect, the camera with the smallest sensor, the Dimage Xi, takes the worst pictures.
