Sony’s Air Board is a WiFi (801.11a/b/g) blasting, 800×600 LCD touch-panel display that can stream television and other data wirelessly from a Sony base station. In addition, it can receive pre-recorded content for the base station anywhere it can establish an internet connection. As a remote screen for your Sony PVR, though, its relatively short 2-3 hour battery life certainly hampers its functionality.
Unfortunately, to maximize throughput over the wireless signal, Sony is utilizing an in-house developed system called ‘Hi-Bit Wireless’ that broadcasts over multiple WiFi channels, making the Air Board a potential bad neighbor that could crowd out or conflict with the WiFi signal of other nearby devices.
