Sony has announced that they will release software allowing the PSP to connect to your Mac or PC. While third-party software already exists that does this, Sony’s announcement shows their level of support for the device’s USB and wireless capabilities. Available within a year from them, (in Japan, of course) the direct connection will make the device more useful as a Memory Stick or Memory Stick Pro reader, and also as an MP3 player, as the new software will integrate with Connect—Sony’s music download service. PC users likely don’t care, as the PSP is already automagically recognized by anything above Windows 98SE.
