Far from the movie action scenes and Mythbusters testing ranges, these photographs capture indoor pyrotechnic explosions just as they begin, creating the illusion that the flames can somehow be confined to these frames.

Daniele Kaehr and Joschi Herczeg rigged up a special camera to develop their Explosions series, snapping the photo at the moment of explosion. The images capture the movement of a growing fireball, but rather than focusing on the chaos of destruction, these photos are almost serene, highlighting the ghostly glow of the rolling fire.
