Screenwriter David Hayter (X-Men, Watchmen, The Scorpion King and the upcoming Black Widow movie) will adapt Michael Morici’s comic ReincarNATE for the small screen, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The one-hour crime drama follows private investigator Nate McCoy, who finds he’s able to communicate with versions of himself from past lives after an errant bullet strikes him in the ol’ coconut. These ghosts of his past include a sultry femme fatale from the 1960s and a grizzled sheriff of the Wild West. Together, they team up to solve the murder of Nate’s father while battling scumbags, crooked cops, drug dealers and other ne’er-do-wells along the way.

Serving as executive producer and head writer, Hayter’s pilot, directed by James Cooper (Interview With a Time Traveler, Elijah the Prophet) is currently being shopped to prospective networks.

The original four-issue miniseries was self-published by Moreci himself with donations from Kickstarter, but is currently being published by Heavy Metal.
