T-Mobile Germany announced the MDA III smartphone to much fanfare yesterday, a WiFi-enabled device that seems to be a GSM version of the Daxian CU928. T-Mobile is claiming up to a 25 percent greater battery life over its predecessor, the MDA II, and is planning on pushing Blackberry email capabilities to the handset by Q4. It’s unknown at the moment if the Windows Mobile 2003 SE phone will support Bluetooth like the MDA II (made by a different manufacturer), but until solid specifications are revealed for this device (like, does it support 3G or not?) , we’ll wait to reserve final judgement. If the MDA/XDA handsets of the past are any indication, it’s going to be a big hit.
And you have to be reminded, at least a little, of the T-Mobile of old (a couple years ago), as a trend-bucking carrier that wasn’t afraid to try new things, like, say, releasing a phone that was capable of making calls outside of the T-Mobile network.
