Talking Panda provides phrasebooks with over three hundred commonly used words and phrases for Spanish, French, and Japanese. What makes that Gizmodo-worthy? For $10 per language, you can download them to your iPod, and get native language-spoken audio files to go along with each phrase, so even if you mangle the pronunciation, you can play the phrases to the person you’re trying to speak to. It’s just for Mac now, but a Windows version is coming soon.
As an aside, my iPod just died today. Seven months and very few miles — we’ll see how well Apple service takes care of me. I’m a sad panda! (Thanks, John!)

Alert! CK writes with this warning: You might want to warn your readers about installing the Talking Panda for the iPod. After reading your story, I jumped over to their site and downloaded their demo, which is really neat, but unfortunately the installer ERASED ALL THE NOTES in my iPod’s Notes folder with no warning whatsoever. That sucks mega-big time. Sorry, CK!
