This is both hilarious and makes total sense. Just like everyone else, zoos have to practice for emergencies. And zoo emergencies include escaping animals. Problem: You can’t just release a real animal for a drill. Solution? Fellow employees dressed as animals.

Here are two such drills — more can be seen at the Atlantic, where we learned about this — held at the Ueno Zoo in Tokyo. First up, an escaped monkey from a February 21, 2006 earthquake drill:

And here’s an escaped rhino — which looks like it took a lot of work to build — from a February 26, 2004 drill:
