The long-awaited return of Star Wars to the big screen might have been met with a bit of a shrug, but the galaxy far, far away is still capable of being creative, especially when it comes to its more offbeat projects. One that looks very promising is The Ninth Jedi, a standalone spinoff of the acclaimed Star Wars: Visions anthology that marks the franchise’s first full anime series.
We got a first glimpse of The Ninth Jedi during Anime Expo, and now a final trailer is here—with the reminder that, hey, there’s a new Star Wars show dropping this week!
The Ninth Jedi, an eight-episode limited series from Lucasfilm and Production I.G., builds on a pair of episodes created for seasons one and three of Visions, “The Ninth Jedi” and “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope.”
Here’s the official description of the new series, which you’ll be able to watch in both English dub and original Japanese versions.
“Part of an all-new Star Wars: Visions Presents banner, which will be used to tell longer-form Star Wars: Visions stories, the limited series picks up not long after the events of the Visions shorts: ‘The Ninth Jedi’ and ‘The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope.’ In the new series, Lah Kara continues to train in the ways of the Jedi under Margrave Juro. Kara goes on an epic journey of self-discovery as she and Juro’s small fellowship of Jedi-in-training embark on a quest to save her father.”
The creative team includes supervising director Kenji Kamiyama, director Shunsuke Tada, and producer Hitoshi Ito. Star Wars: Visions – The Ninth Jedi arrives August 5 on Disney+. Will you be checking out this new frontier for the franchise?
