The First Trailer For LucasFilm’s Strange Magic Isn’t Strange Enough

We only first heard about Lucasfilm’s new CG animated movie
Strange Magic when it was announced a week and a half ago as a musical semi-remake of A Midsummer Night’s Dream with pop songs. Now the first trailer is here, and unfortunately it looks like stuff we’ve seen many times before.

Tiny faerie people? The “wackiness” of giving faux-medieval peoples modern-day speech and sensibilities? A plethora of modern music?
Strange Magic looks and feels like a half-hearted CG Dreamworks film from the ’00s — one of the infinite generic CG kids’ fantasy flicks that came out in the wake of Shrek and which invariably used Smash Mouth’s “All-Star” in a montage somewhere. The comedy seems forced, and the music choices seem… uninspired, to say the least. But hey, maybe if you’re a kid it looks like the greatest thing ever. If anyone has any kids who can confirm or deny, I’d be most apreciative.
