The new Star Wars toys are already hankering for your money in various shapes and sizes following Force Friday in September—but they’d still like just a little more of it. The Disney Infinity videogame is all Star Wars themed this year, and naturally that means they’re bringing some of their newest stars to figure form too.
Although we’ve already seen the above figures of Rey and Finn for the game—John Boyega and Daisy Ridley revealed them at the D23 Expo last August, before handing them out to people in the crowd—this is our first decent look at the Force Awakens content coming to Disney’s “toys-to-life” gaming platform.
Revealed by Best Buy’s website earlier today before being formally announced by Disney, the Force Awakens playset (following on from two previous sets based on Clone Wars and the original trilogy of movies) will come with both Rey and Finn as well as a new story level based, presumably, on the early parts of the film on Jakku—as the new heroes and familiar faces go in search for “a much-needed ally”, according to the set’s description. Both Boyega and Ridley will reprise their roles, and if it’s anything like the past level sets, you’ll get about 3 or 4 hours of kid-friendly platforming and action fun with a shiny new coat of The Force Awakens paint.
The real highlight of Infinity and other products like it, such as Skylanders and Lego Dimensions, is the actual toys rather than the games though, and as far as static little figures go, the Disney ones have been great. As someone who only really picked up the latest game for the Star Wars wrapping, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how well the chunky artstyle that unifies all Infinity toys regardless of whether they’re Star Wars, Marvel or Disney characters works, and it looks great in person. So it’s a good job we’re getting a few more figures on top of Rey and Finn!
Yes, the third hero in the new triumvirate, Poe Dameron, and the new villain, Kylo Ren, will also be joining in on the fun as individual characters for use in both the new Force Awakens set and previous Disney Infinity 3.0 content. Which probably means Ahsoka Tano and Kylo Ren could go hang out with Mulan or the cast of Inside Out, and you know what? That sounds pretty damn fantastic.
The Force Awakens content for Disney Infinity 3.0 will be out day and date with the movie itself: December 18th. The level set will set you back $35, while the individual figures of Poe and Kylo Ren will be available for $13 each.
