We’re not sure what to make of Steven Soderbergh’s new Cinemax series The Knick. The premise is great: it’s entirely centered around New York’s early 20th-century hospital The Knickerbocker and the vast amount of surgeries performed there. But man oh man is the tension high in this trailer.

Starring Clive Owen, the 10-episode season was directed by Soderbergh and allegedly gives “a look at the professional and personal lives of the staff at New York’s Knickerbocker Hospital during the early part of the 20th century” but damned if the music and shots of surgical procedures doesn’t give off an American Horror Story vibe. Although it looks like this series will be much more based in actual history (with pauses for Cinemax sexy times).

The Knick will premiere on August 8th.
