Lightning does strange things to the land, the people it strikes, and even the gadgets those people are holding. Building a device that converts energy from lightning to heat the person below is probably too far a step, though.


It's all part of Andrew Friend's wacky mind, whose artwork is on show at the Royal College of Art Design in London and explores the idea of experiencing various emotions—disappearance, danger, energy. As well as creating the lightning strike device, he also conjured up the Device For Disappearing At Sea, which is an open-topped container big enough to fit one person in, so they can float out to sea and experience absolute isolation.
