The scene that shows how ludicrous the tech (and sex) gets on Da Vinci’s Demons

David S. Goyer’s Da Vinci’s Demons premiered last night on STARZ and it was…kind of slow. But this clip shows us what we do get in lieu of an intriguing plot and compelling characters: implausible Renaissance technology and painted lady nipples. This clip is NSFW and contains technology indistinguishable from magic.

There were some cool aspects of Da Vinci’s Demons—we enjoyed the illustrated Leonardo Vision in particular. But it felt like it was trying too hard to be The Tudors (or, to be more precise, The Borgias) without giving us much reason to care about its political machinations. I suppose it’s nice to see someone bastardizing Renaissance-era technology instead of Victorian technology for once, but it would be better if it walked a tad closer to the era’s actual (and not inconsiderable) technological innovations.
