Aliette de Bodard just became the first person to win both the fiction categories at the British Science Fiction Awards. She won Best Novel for her book House of Shattered Wings, and also won Best Short Story for her story “Three Cups of Grief, by Starlight.”

The Guardian’s writeup of her unprecedented sweep includes a list of the things that influenced de Bodard to become a writer: “De Bodard began writing after discovering authors Isaac Asimov and Ursula Le Guin, and coming across Orson Scott Card’s How to Write Fantasy and Science Fiction.”
