TechTV is calling the new iPronto from Philips the “Mother of All Remote Controls” and that it’s the best universal remote they’ve ever seen. And with a retail price of $1,699.99, it better be. That’s more than the cost of most people’s entire home entertainment setup:
The iPronto can command every last piece of equipment, from your name-brand DVD player to your obscure-brand cable box. Each remote gets its own display layout, so you get only the buttons that make sense for that device. Therefore, you won’t have to program a “page-up” button to be a “volume-up” button, for example. Let’s say you have several remotes you need available all at once. The iPronto offers a “four-up” display that shows you the controls of whichever four devices you need to command.
To sweeten the deal, the iPronto also has built-in WiFi, so you can access the Web on its six-inch LCD screen.
