This beautiful lamp, designed by Elia Mangia for Foundry, is subtly inspired by a jackknife's folding bladeā€”but don't let that put you off, because its simplicity is too alluring to resist.

Called Tuca-Tuca, the lamp's main structure is made from a carved and turned stick of maple, on which a painted metal shade is mounted. Hinged in the same way as a jackknife, the shade closes to sit flush with the the base when not in useā€”the rest of the time, its warm LEDs reflect beautifully off the natural wood below.

The lamp will be available from Foundry soon, though price is yet to be confirmed. [Foundry via Design Boom]
