This beautiful lamp, designed by Elia Mangia for Foundry, is subtly inspired by a jackknife’s folding blade—but don’t let that put you off, because its simplicity is too alluring to resist.

Called Tuca-Tuca, the lamp’s main structure is made from a carved and turned stick of maple, on which a painted metal shade is mounted. Hinged in the same way as a jackknife, the shade closes to sit flush with the the base when not in use—the rest of the time, its warm LEDs reflect beautifully off the natural wood below.

The lamp will be available from Foundry soon, though price is yet to be confirmed. [Foundry via Design Boom]
