In this evocative trailer for short film "Dust," you'll be sucked into a beautifully-designed, futuristic world. Nature is evolving at a breakneck pace, transforming Earth's ecosystems while humans lock themselves up in walled cities.

Director Mike Grier told io9, "Dust is a short film structured as a small piece of a much larger world. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to make it into a feature film. There is so much more of the world to explore than what’s captured in the short." The short, supported by crowdfunding, is scheduled to be finished by December of this year.

Here's the official synopsis:

Produced by Ember Lab and filmed in remote areas of Japan, "Dust" takes place in a world of rapid evolution. Each year new species and adaptations alter the balance of their ecosystems. Technology and deep tradition exist as symbiotic opposites dividing people who live in the countryside from those who live in walled cities. Amidst this cultural turmoil, nature offers up an unexpected challenge. Music by Yasuharu Takanashi also featuring Francois Jolin. Cast: Masashi Odate, Michael Lopez, Madeleine Lee, Kiyomi Fukazawa
