Nina Paley is best known for her Ramayana-inspired animated feature Sita Sings the Blues, and now she’s working on an unorthodox retelling of the Passover story. And this segment, in which the Angel of Death takes the firstborn of Egypt, is a visual stunner, taking imagery from those Egyptian graphics.

Death of the Firstborn Egyptians is just one part of what will eventually become Paley’s film Seder-Masochism. And judging from her blog, she has plenty of other interesting animation techniques in store, including animated embroidery.
