Wanna make a feature film? Try making your tale as a short that becomes a viral hit first. It’s a trend that’s gaining traction, and Realm, about a teenage girl who happens to be a demon hunter, is yet another example. Watch the short (it’s just over three minutes long) below.
Deadline reports that Rebecca Sonnenshine, a Vampire Diaries producer, wrote the script for what’s described as the story of a young woman with “the power to enter the soul of the possessed to wage physical battle against their inner demons;” Deadline notes that it’s “in the vein of Resident Evil or Underworld, with a heroine reminiscent of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (she’s great at killing demons, less so at handling her own demons in the real world).”
To be honest, the clip feels less like a stand-alone short, and more like a teaser trailer for a TV show (so much voice-over exposition!), but that demon-on-goth-girl sword fight in a high-school gym does look promising.
